A classic Crockpot Sloppy Joes recipe featuring ground beef simmered with onions, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce, slow-cooked to perfection and served on buns for a hearty and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped

Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Serving

  • Buns for serving (6 to 8 buns)

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion together until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are softened. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Transfer to crockpot: Place the browned beef and onions in the crockpot. Add ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine all ingredients evenly.
  3. Cook slowly: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 4 hours. Stir occasionally if possible to ensure even cooking and flavor blending.
  4. Serve: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto buns and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a thicker consistency, leave the crockpot uncovered during the last 30 minutes of cooking to let some liquid evaporate.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Add diced green bell peppers or a splash of hot sauce for extra flavor and spice.
  • Use whole wheat buns to increase fiber content and add nutrients.
  • Brown sugar can be replaced with honey or maple syrup for a different sweet note.
